BOOK READING CHALLENGE

BOOK TITLE…….. The Big Picture

AUTHOR………… Dr Ben Carson

Review Presentation Day 4

By: KFUH Kingsley KAN

Hello my friend, how do you do? Sure amazing right, I know you are glued to getting another dose of the Big Picture, me too😊.

I want you to imagine for a moment, we are the audience at the united way conference, being addressed by Dr Ben Carson, then he says this; ‘You may think that once I began to glimpse my own potential and what the future could hold, that life would be good to me and I will just zoom right to the top. Wrong!! ‘.

When we talk of the big picture, we make it look so enticing and motivating, then we give a carefully calculated receipt or one size fits all strategy on how to have one, but the truth is the ride is bumpy. It’s going to take you alot of dedication, highs and lows (in most cases) to end up with what drives you. So don’t for a sec judge that challenge or failure as a negative indicator , (unless ofcourse you have another fairy god-mother(other passion) calling your name 😅).

Here’s the receipt we leave the conference with— if you will call it a big picture, then you obviously’ve got to THINK BIG. Let’s look at the acronym.

*T* is for *Talent* -an inborn ability God gave you that can be harnessed skillfully

*H* is for *Honesty* , building your life on truths minimize unnecessary stresses and explanations. You don’t have to worry about any skeletons in the closet.

*I* is for *Insight* -which comes from listening to those people who have already been where you are trying to go. In Solomon’s words ‘wise is the man who can learn from someone else’s triumphs and mistakes. The person who cannot is a fool.’

*N* is *Nice* . Be nice to people. Once they get over their suspicions about why you are being nice, they’ll be nice to you and you’ll be a more happy person.

*K* is for *Knowledge* my friend, which can make you more valuable a person. It’s an asset.

*B* is for *Books* -one of the sources from where you’ll get this knowledge. Build a spirit of reading about your areas of interests.

*I* is for *In-depth learning* – learning for the sake of understanding and application, no superficialities.

*G* is for *God* . You need to trust God in the journey of situating yourself in the big picture. He knitted you in your mother’s womb for a specific assignment. This is the most important of all.

Carson rounds up today by talking about us *seeing hardship as an advantage.* You may have come from a very wretched home-so you probably see yourself as a misfit, one who’s a good for nothing. Carson was here, but that rather served as a motivation for him to work harder, study harder, pray harder, and spend lesser(He and Curtis(his brother) were the only hope of their mother). This eventually paid off.

Hardship taught Carson financial responsibility (he couldn’t be careless with the little he had coz the mother was his lone sponsor in school), it taught him the Secret to happiness. Flash back at those times where you had literally nothing, but you could still smile. You don’t need to have a bag of money. You’re growing up to be an amazing person -just smile through the pain.

Not all of us have been blessed with a wonderful mum like that of Carson, but we surely do have people who can guide us through this journey. Look around.

Thank you for Reading
