BOOK READING CHALLENGE

BOOK TITLE……..The Big Picture

ARTHUR………… Dr Ben Carson

Review Presentation Day 3

By: KFUH Kingsley KAN

Hello everyone, welcome to another ride with me. The book only gets more juicy.

“Almost every week I am invited to speak somewhere……… I always tell a little about my own experience and some of the biggest lessons I have learned over the years. I invariably try to encourage my listeners to make better use of the potential in the incredible human brains they have been given—even as I offer my own perspective on what is truly important in life. In one way or another I always seem to be talking about what I am writing about here.” Ben Carson.

You know that feeling as a Surgeon when you get an operation go hitch free and your patient is doing just fine post op? Oh yes, That’s how Carson feels today after operating on the Zambian twins.

This exposes him to more and more press conferences and talk shows.
In this excitement, he decides to flash back to his 5th grade days when his friends would call him a dummy, when he will score a zero in a math test and will be laughed at, and in 7th grade when through the help of his mother boosting up his reading attitude, he goes up to being top of his class.

With all this, he questions why anyone will ever think they can’t, when they do have a brain. We keep finding ourselves trapped in alot of mediocrity, we don’t function at our best, that’s because we doubt ourselves. Have you ever wondered how amazing the human brain(your brain) is? Do you even know the complex processes occuring in milliseconds in your brain- enabling you to read what I’m writing? Do you know that you will understand that thing or concept if only you teach your brain (by reading/studying)?

You’ve got to start rethinking if your actions are indeed motivated by a big picture. Maybe you just don’t know what you want to do. You’ve tried , and tried, nothing works. Carson had to quit being a psychiatrist to pursue his passion -the wonders of the brain-being a brain surgeon. Courage my friend. Who said it was easy? It’s not.

One thing is for sure, when you finally get that big picture, one that wakes you from bed, one in which you find your essence, you’ll be a happy and satisfied person indeed.

Unlike he paints it in his book, you won’t only need information to see your big picture in our contemporary digital world, you also need mentors(those who have gone before you and have a batch of experience in your area of interest) and lastly, you need to search from within you.

Thank you for Reading
