BOOK TITLE…….. The Big Picture
AUTHOR………… Dr Ben Carson
Review Presentation Day 6

Hello Sir, Hello Madam😊 A bright morning to you all. Welcome again, to another intriguing review of today’s reading.
The story and success of Ben Carson is incomplete without talking about the giant in the picture-his Mother, how very instrumental she was in bringing up a Hero like Carson.
That is why Carson decides to talk about Parenting as a very important entity in the big picture.
His rollercoaster for today kicks off where he narrates the death of a teenage boy, gunned down and killed by friends while walking home from school on a North Baltimore Sidewalk. So he’s been invited to speak to an over 1000 gathering of sad parents(including the parent to the deceased).
“The first thing I wish every parent understood is that our children gain their sense of who they are, and who they will be, from their family. Atleast they should. If we provide an appropriate environment—where communication is open and values are espoused—then our children will be far less likely to seek outside influences to determine who they are and how to behave.” Ben Carson
Then he goes on to give us strategies for improved parenting. Let’s enumerate the first 3 in brief.
1-Remember your own(parent) childhood. This helps you have(like Sigmund Freud) I would say a close guess to what children actually go through, what influences they are having outside of home and what challenges they go through. That way you’ll be a better parent.
2-Let them make the rules. This is not relinquishing authority to children, it is allowing them be part of the decision making on chores, time allocation etc. This reduces their chance of rebellion to their own rules.
3-Make certain your children experience the consequences, should they not comply to the tasks given them.
You must be wondering, why Parenting today???? Well the truth is the might of any society, the value of it’s people and the sense of their purpose can only be harnessed in the basic unit of the society, where virtue is built which is the Home. A home is not necessarily a roof of people connected by some genetic predisposition, but a roof of people who truely seek the wellbeing of each other. When we build from home and provide our children with the right mindset, the necessary love, they would grow up with increased self awareness.
A good chunk of our friends who wallow in all forms of moral decedence and vices, are there because they may have had no form of good parental guidance. Sadly another half of the burden are friends who have waisted their lives because of peers(people who encourage errors, rudeness and stupidity)..
I’m not married 😅(Atleast hoping to one day), but I’ll sure keep these lessons with me-to be applied when need arise.
Interesting right? Ofcourse. Don’t marry just yet, do stay with me for more juice.
Thank you for Reading
