BOOK READING CHALLENGE

BOOK TITLE…….. The Big Picture

AUTHOR………… Dr Ben Carson

Review Presentation Day 5

By: KFUH Kingsley KAN

I greet you loved one. It’s another day for us to see what the Big Picture has for us.

Today , Carson spends a chunk of his time telling us about the things hardship did to him: it trained him to look for the best in worst situations, to develop a positive imagination, to develop a strong work ethic and to set and pursue goals.
Why is Hardship even a topic for discussion? Because our greatest lessons are often taught in uncomfortable situations.

When we are faced with challenges, there is a natural tendency to seek the easy way, we have been built for alot of comfort. This is a wrong approach. How do we see a big picture through hardship in life?
There’s something he talks of- the victim mentality . If we will keep playing the victim to that circumstance, we are going no where.

We literally spend hours constructing letters of appeal when we hit rock bottom, we speak with a pitiful tone to get attention, we bill every of our contact list, we do that all day. We eventually (in some cases) receive support and get so comfortable that we donot look for a permanent solution to our problem. You will never grow when you keep having the victim mentality.

You’ve got to look at lasting ways to remedy that financial crisis, that challenge at work, those economic huddles, that exam failure etc.

Carson had the choice to feel this way, like a victim, while being in medical school because he was battling with studies and bills all together. It was so bad that his medical adviser asked him to drop out. Rather he decided to spend extra hours after school looking for sustainable sources of income and also to create more hours for reading.. Had he succumbed, we’ll not have the World renowned Neurosurgeon we have today.

Courage my friend!!.

He Further goes on to share with us inspirational stories of some of his colleagues who literally left from abject poverty and hardship (as asylum seekers) to owners of reputable world firms/busines ventures-some of them in the likes of Booker T Washington, Joseph Neubauer and Terry Giles.

You are no different, you may not have been born with a silver spoon in your hand, but you sure got hands to get a silver spoon if you’d love to.

Now to those who have been born into affluence, is any of these applicable to you? Certainly yes, build essence-using the resources you have, build capacity, develop virtues. Your greatest resource is your brain, for with it you can acquire what you need for living-even if you were to lose everything. You already have alot of ‘distractions’ that can be delt with if you set your priorities right..

Let your hardships refine you, donot run away from them, look at the lessons in the big picture, not the pain in the present . That’s why it is a big picture my friend.

Thank you for Reading 😊😊
